No reason to restrict satellite voting

Julia Vaugh is policy director for Common Cause/Indiana a nonpartisan citizens lobbying organization that works for honest, open and accountable government.

I recently attended a Marion County Election Board meeting held to take public testimony on whether the board should operate satellite locations for early voting this year. Common Cause/Indiana has long supported efforts to make voting more accessible and convenient, so I was eager to add our voice to the chorus of many who support ways to adapt voting and civic participation in the 21st century.

What was dissappointing abou the meeting was that it ever happened.

  1. Dan Carpenter, in the article that follows suggests that if together we change the conversation, then the desired transformation also can be achieved.

    On the other hand, when we are unable to change the conversation, nothing is likely to happen.

    All of us can aspire to improve our City. Every single one of us can achieve – in our own way – those goals important to each of us to strengthen Southport. We as caring, dedicated residents and corporate citizens can advance our personal involvement and those programs, initiatives, services and events we want to see happen for our families, our friends, neighbors and ourselves.
